Distribution of School Bags and Tools at Hawija Al-Sawafi School
Hawija Swafi School was founded in 1982 in the village holding the same name, which is derived from a water stub that passed through its sand dunes called “Sawafi” in the colloquial. Located in the Al-Kasrat area, 7 km from the center of Raqqa city, the village’s school is one of few schools in the area where student numbers have increased from pre-war in Syria. This year, the school is expected to have about 900 primary and middle school students.
The project “Me and My School 2” targeted the School of Hawija Al-Sawafi in the campaign to distribute bags and school tools in order to reduce the expenses of education that may burden the parents of students, as well as to encourage children to return to their schools after a long cut since 2018 during the control of ISIS of the area, and On 16/09/2019, the project team distributed 601 bags to the students in their classrooms after having some sweets together with the students.
“Me and My School 2” is a project that aims to provide students in 13 schools in Raqqa city and its countryside with school bags and tools to meet their basic educational needs. It is a continuation of the “Me and My School” project launched by GAV for Relief and Development on March 20, 2019, and aims to create the right environment for the families and children of Al-Raqqah city and its countryside to engage in the educational process in a coordinated and orderly manner, and encourage the return of IDPs to their liberated towns and villages, as a part of the organization’s plan to respond to the needs of the education sector in north-eastern Syria.
The first phase of the project included a service response to 37 schools among the most affected by the war in Raqqa and its countryside by maintaining its blackboards and providing its classes with seats, tables, chairs, stationery, chalk and children’s entertainment groups, as well as providing schools with billboards. Trash cans and garbage containers.
