Ibn Rushd School openning on 24 April 2019
Ibn Rushd School was founded in 1987 in the eastern village of Salhabiyah, 25 km from Raqqa city in its southern Western countryside and consists of two blocks, one of which is old, and the other is a two-storey modern building and that was built in 2000.
“Me and my School” project targeted Ibn Rushd School for the moral and material destruction as a result of the war in the region, closing the school after ISIS control and no longer opening its doors to children until 2018 after the liberation of Raqqa and its countryside from ISIS, in addition to the decrease in the number of students from 550 students before the war to 149 after it, as a result of ISIS’s hardline control and emigration, and the western part of the school’s modern bloc was bombed, which destroyed some of its classes and walls.
“Me and my School” project provided 40 benches, three chairs and tables for teachers in some of its classrooms, as well as the restoration and painting of all the damaged boards, the installation of wooden cushions and frames, and the provision of stationery and chalk, as well as the installation of a billboard in the school lobby and a recreational group for children, and the school was provided with four bins, two garbage cans and a hygiene kit.
“Me and My School” project opened Ibn Rushd school after the amendments made on 24 April 2019, and the opening ceremony took place in the presence of students and their parents and teachers, during which 149 school bags were distributed to all students, and awareness brochures were distributed to encourage students to integrate effectively into the educational process.
In order to communicate effectively with the beneficiaries of the project, “Me and My School” project team met with the parents of the students and school teachers who demanded the need to renovate the shattered parts of the school and improve the bathrooms by providing water tanks and maintenance of faults, as well as providing other teaching aids to staff to facilitate educational content for children.
Me and My School” is a project launched by the GAV Relief and Development Organization on 20 March 2019 and aims to create a favorable environment for the residents and children of Raqqa city and the area of al-Kahtaniyah in the counryside of the governorate to engage in the educational process in a coordinated and orderly manner, and encourage the displaced people to return to their towns and villages , As part of the organization’s plan to respond to the needs of the educational sector in the regions of north-eastern Syria.
“Me and my School” project responds to the service requirements of 37 schools in Raqqa and its countryside among the most affected by the war that destroyed schools and afflicted damage to classes, fences and benches, hindering the progress of the educational process in its desired form, and prevent children from having access to a suitable and appropriate educational environment after the restoration of security proportionally to the liberated areas.
