Distribution of school bags and equipment to students of Abdulsalam Al-Aujayli School
Abdulsalam Al-Aujayli school was founded in 1982 in the village of Al-Khatuniya in the western countryside of Raqqa. The school took its name from the local writer and poet Abdulsalam Al-Aujayli who was born in Raqqa city. The school has about 300 students, from about 400 before the war in Syria. The school closed in 2013 and turned into a shelter for displaced people until 2017 .
The Project of “Me and My School 2” targeted Abdulsalam Al-Aujayli school in the campaign of distributing bags and school tools in order to reduce the expenses of education that may burden the parents of students, as well as to encourage children to return to school after a long stop until 2017, and on 26/09/2019 the project staff distributed 245 bags to the students in their classrooms after giving them some candy.
“Me and My School 2” is a project that aims to provide students in 13 schools in Raqqa city and its countryside with school bags and tools to meet their basic educational needs. It is a continuation of the “Me and My School” project launched by GAV for Relief and Development on March 20, 2019, and aims to create the right environment for the families and children of Raqqa city and Al-Qahtaniya area of the province countryside to engage in the educational process in a coordinated and orderly manner, and encourage the return to their liberated towns and villages which is a part of the organization’s plan to respond to the needs of the education sector in north-eastern Syria.
The first phase of the project included a service response to 37 schools among the most affected by the war in Raqqa and its countryside by maintaining its boards and providing its classrooms with seats, tables, chairs, stationery, chalk and children’s entertainment sets, as well as providing schools with billboards,trash cans and garbage containers.
