School of Western Salhabiyah camp 17 April 2019

استعدادات لافتتاح مدرسة مخيم السلحبية الغربية

The Western al-Salhabiyah  Camp School was established almost a year ago in a camp for internally displaced persons near the western village of Salhabiyah  , about 30 km west of Raqqa city. This school was established thanks to the efforts of the camp’s residents who made donations to allocate a 30 square meter iron tent to become a school for camp children. The school has 90 students who are divided into two shifts because of its small capacity.

“Me and my School” project targeted the western al- Salhabiyah  Camp school to ease the burden on the camp’s residents and to fill the shortage of school equipment, which was sorely lacking in classrooms, tables and chairs, and its students suffering from bad weather in winter.

The project  of “Me and my School” provided 15 benches to replace the shattered ones in the classrooms, the teacher’s chair and desk were replaced and the blackboard was maintained and a stationery and chalk set was provided, and the school was equipped with a children’s entertainment set, a billboard and a cleaning kit, as well as 2 trash basket and 2 garbage cans.

Me and my school project opened Western Salhabiyah camp school on 17 April 2019 after amendments were made  and awareness brochures were distributed to encourage students engage in the educational process effectively.

In order to communicate effectively with the beneficiaries of the project, the team of “Me and My School” project  met the parents of the students and teachers of Al-Sbahyiah Al-Gharbiyah school who stressed their urgent need to remove the rubble from the school yard and to build their walls and rehabilitate their toilets, in addition to the need for more educational means.

“Me and My School” is a project launched by the GAV Relief and Development Organization on 20 March 2019 and aims to create a favorable environment for the residents and children of Raqqa city and the town of al-Qahtaniyah in its countryside to engage in the educational process in a coordinated and orderly manner, and encourage the displaced people to return to their towns and villages , As part of the organization’s plan to respond to the needs of the educational sector in the regions of north-eastern Syria.

“Me and my School” project responds to the service requirements of 37 schools in Raqqa and its countryside among the most affected by the war that destroyed schools and damaged  the classes, walls, benches and other things , hindering the progress of the educational process in its desired form, and prevents children from having access to a suitable and appropriate educational environment after the restoration of security proportionally to the liberated areas.
